Welcome to Las Colinas 7th and 8th grade SAI Language Arts.
I have been a teacher since 1997, focusing on Language Arts, Social Studies, and Special Education. I graduated from UCLA with a BA in English literature and have my MA from Chapman in curriculum design. I have a multiple subject teaching credential as well as an education specialist teaching credential.
I was born and raised in Southern California, where I love to hike in Yosemite, swim at the beach, and jog around town. I came to live in Camarillo 13 years ago because I knew that Camarillo was an excellent place to raise children. I am a mom to two girls, 13 and 8, who attend PVSD schools.
This year I will focus the curriculum on reading and writing skills. Most, not all, of the work will be done using paper, pencil, and books in lieu of technology. Multiple studies indicate that pen, paper and book learning allow students to retain knowledge better than computers.
We will be reading and writing every day in class. It is important that students come to class prepared to work, with their writing journal, pencil, and a charged computer. Textbooks are stored in class.
Students' primary homework is the reading log. It is due every 2 weeks and requires the signature of an adult. Reading at home is vital to improving a student's reading comprehension and writing skills. In addition, we will take a spelling quiz, that focuses on high frequency words, on the same day that the reading log is due.
Please contact me at any time if you have any concerns or questions regarding your student.
