Two teacher surveys are live now!
SRTMS School Rules: Be safe. Be respectful. Be prepared.
Mrs. Johansen's additional norms:
Keep the classroom calm, tidy, and quiet.
Be a helper.
Do your best.
Listen with your eyes, ears, and heart.
Speak your needs. (Tell a grownup if you need help)
6. General Behavior
Students are expected to treat all others with respect, cooperation, and courtesy. Students will cooperate with all staff members at all times, including substitutes, and follow their direction. Defiance will not be tolerated at any time.
7. Hands-Off Policy
Students will keep their “hands-off” each other and others’ property at all times. There will be no pushing, shoving, kicking, or horseplay.
My email is sjohansen@pleasantvalleysd.org
I check my email inbox by 9am and respond to emails during office hours daily from 2:30-3:00pm. If you have an urgent update for me that you need me to get ASAP, call the front office. Teaching is an "on my feet" job so I am often away my desk between 9am-2:30pm.
NEWSLETTER
I distribute a classroom newsletter weekly which includes: important dates, reminders, and our class learning objectives. The newsletter will come home as a hard copy in student homework folders and also be sent to my class email list.
STUDENT PROGRESS
You will receive a Report Card each Trimester. On the Report Card, you will see student scores related to grade-level standards that have been taught so far. PVSD uses a 3,2,1 Mastery-Based grading scale to show student progress.
In October, Parent-Teacher conferences give me a chance to sit down with caregivers during a 20-min appointment to chat about individual student needs and learning. In the Spring, conferences are held for students who receive multiple "1s" in any content area. If you have any big life changes or have any concerns (at any time in the year), please reach out so that you and I can work together to support your child.
Much of classwork is ungraded practice. Graded assignments will come home with scores and comments. If you would like more ideas on how to extend learning, I publish a monthly homework/enrichment Gameboard that you can use.
