Project Overview
The 2023-24 school year marks our first time diving into the world of Trout in the Classroom (TIC). The PVMS East life science teachers have received a grant from the PV Foundation to kickstart and establish this incredible experience for our 7th-grade students. This grant money enabled us to purchase equipment, tools, and other necessary elements to run the TIC program in our classroom.
This interdisciplinary program connects students with PA's coldwater resources while observing the lifecycle of trout firsthand by raising them from eggs to the eventual release as fingerlings into Perkiomen Creek. Each school partners with local and state organizations for assistance and other experiences. Students will apply various sciences, mathematics, social studies, communications, and hands-on skills. In the process they will also learn about:
aquatic ecology
conservation and preservation
current and historical ecological threats
local environmental enhancement opportunities and strategies
recreational opportunities in our local environments

About Us
Mrs. Czapla and Mr. Kirsinger are 7th-grade life science teachers dedicated to engaging students through discussions and hands-on experiences. We believe that learning should ignite curiosity and promote real-world observations and inquiry.
Some other things we do with our classes:
raise rats to study diet and development
hydroponics (growing plants without soil)
use zebrafish to study genetics
go outside to study nature (seems simple, but it is really important)
We want to thank the PV Foundation for allowing us the opportunity to bring this awesome, long-term experience into our classrooms!
