From the first week of school, Chloe has impressed the Journey Team teachers!  She possesses quiet leadership in the classroom, focused on helping others achieve their highest potential.  Chloe is driven in her own right and holds herself to high standards in her classroom behavior and academic achievement.  She uses her time at school to her advantage and asks excellent clarifying questions when she needs assistance.  Additionally, Chloe has a kind heart, a compassionate personality, and is a friend to everyone who needs one.  She epitomizes what it means to be West Strong, and we are so pleased to have the opportunity to teach Chloe on our team.  

Great job, Chloe!  Keep up the excellent work!

The Journey Team had the honor of selecting Gabriel Sherman as our October Student of the Month.  Gabe is the type of student who shows up every day with the right mindset to make everyone's day a little better and a little brighter.  He consistently gives his all without ever looking for or expecting recognition.  We see this in his interactions with his classmates- whether it is him offering a kind word, support in a group setting, or as a friend to talk with in class, Gabe is always there for others.  Gabe's leadership comes from character, not attention or recognition.  He leads each day with West Strong values of responsibility, respect, and safety.  We could not be prouder to give Gabe the recognition he deserves as a role model for others on our team.  Thank you, Gabe, for all you do!

For November's Student of the Month, we were asked to recognize a student who displayed Generosity and Gratitude.  Our team immediately thought of Jenna Flor.  We would be hard-pressed to find another student who displays more gratitude in the classroom.  Jenna is a true lover of learning, and regardless of the content, she is grateful for the opportunity to grow through new knowledge.  The positivity and joy she brings to the classroom each day lift others and are truly contagious.  Jenna is a role model for other students, and every day she shows how to start each day with a grateful heart.  We are so thankful to have Jenna on the Journey Team. 

December is a month to recognize a student of integrity and high values- a description that encompasses all that Scarlett brings to West every day.  Every teacher who works with her is impressed by her maturity, quiet confidence, and ability to make others feel comfortable with themselves.  Scarlett is not about getting open recognition each day; she holds herself to high standards and is happy knowing she has tried to do her best for herself and those around her.  This happens through working in small groups, adding her perspective to class discussions, and keeping an open mind about her learning.  Scarlett is someone who loves to learn, and that makes her a joy to teach.  The Journey Team could not be more proud to have her as one of our students, and we look forward to all the accomplishments Scarlett will have in her future.  

Alexa is the type of student who quietly goes about her business each day, always doing what is right, and making sure others feel connected.  She is the perfect person to represent the Journey Team for January's student of the month.  Alexa does not let anything get in the way of her growth and education.  If something does not come easy to her, she finds another way to get the job done.  Alexa asks questions, advocates for herself, and is open to hearing honest feedback.  She is constantly looking to improve herself and make sure that today she is one percent better than she was yesterday.  Its this growth-mindset that makes Alexa stand out from the crowd.  She does not chase perfection; she is interested in the process, the growth, and the journey. For that, we would like to honor her!

February is a month to honor students who go out of their way to include everyone and make West a kinder place.  Elaina was an easy choice for this award.  Not a day goes by that we do not see Elaina go out of her way to help others.  What comes naturally to her, truly makes her stand out around her peers.  Elaina never asks for recognition or does kind behaviors for rewards, she does it because that is truly who she is and how she chooses to walk forth every day.  Her smile lights up every room and her positivity shines.  We could not have asked for a kinder more respectful student than Elaina to represent the Journey Team for the month of February.  Elaina, you make us so proud, and you are a role model for everyone at West!
