If you are teaching a title to the whole class or requiring students to read it, the title must be on the literature list. There are some exceptions that only apply to IB or Gifted classes. Please see Guidelines for titles that are not on the Literature List on the guidelines page for more information.
Teachers should teach titles on their own grade-level list unless they are teaching a specialty program that requires a higher or lower leveled text.

You may assign an independent project for a title that is not on the list as long as the student selects the text and you obtain parent permission. If you give students a list of titles to choose from for literature circles, they must come from the literature list.
In order to teach a whole novel in StudySync, it must be on the literature list at your grade-level. You may teach an excerpt from our adopted curriculum that is not on the list or is listed at a different grade level.
You may teach an excerpt from a title that is not on the literature list as long is it comes from the Tier 1 Curriculum or if it meets the guidelines of the Supplemental Curriculum Resource Checklist. An excerpt is defined as a short extract from a text. If you are unsure whether the excerpt is appropriate, consult your principal before choosing it.
