STEAM FROM A-Z
WHAT: This initiative works to create a more inclusive environment for kids and teens excited about STEAM careers. Every other month we create a magazine complete with interviews, experiments, and local opportunities. So far we have published 5 issues each centered on a different aspect of STEAM, have grown our team on a global level to 7 members, and have grown our Instagram following to 800+ followers.
CONNECTION TO THE DAAPSTONE: STEAM From A-Z is what started my interest for literacy, research, and writing. Through bringing together high schoolers to wrrite about different topics we work to increase access to information and create a space for all individuals to feel excited about STEAM topics.
THE FUTURE: During my project I hope to create an issue in our series focused on health literacy and its impact on the medical field.
VOLUNTEER
VOLUNTEER
WHAT: I have volunteered at HonorHealth since 2025 and have participated in both the Summer Teen Volunteer Program and the HonorHealth Medical Explorers Club. Through working in the Nursing Unit and Information Desk I understood what the hopsital environment was actually like and what patients needed.
CONNECTION TO MY DAAPSTONE: Continuing my volunteer journey at HonorHealth with my DAAPSTONE on health literacy in mind will allow me to see from a patients perspective why there is a need for health literacy.
THE FUTURE: Currently I am volunteering with the brand new Virtual Reality Therapy initiative. In this role I go into pateints rooms and lead them through Virtual Realitly therapy. This act of connection allows me to talk with them about their experiences both within and inside the hospital. I hope to use these opportuntiies for interaction to get a deeper understanding of the medical field and what patients are looking for from their doctors.
