Goals
My goal to start this school year is to go slow to go fast. I want to build a strong foundation to read critically, write argumently, think critically and analytically, to speak confidently, and to reflect with conscious consideration.
Course and Curriculum
Considering the circumstances we are under, I have chosen to begin the year with critical reading of 3-4 short stories and then move into our novel, The Outsiders. This classic will lead to great discussion about social classes, and will tie into our overarching theme of the cycle: power, control, wealth, and builds a foundation of reading, writing, thinking, speaking, and reflecting.
Our writing will start with poll questions based on the literature we have read and discussed and will follow the RACE format. We will be using the writing program, Revision Assistant all year.
I will adjust my curriculum as the year and circumstances progress.
Grading
While online and through September 4th, grades are broken down as follows:
Mastery: tests, quizzes, projects, and final writing assignments at 70%
Foundation: participation, homework, and classwork at 30%
Late Work
I will be working in coordination with the district and families to make sure work is turned in on time.
Behavior Expectations
While online, I would like to have each student have their camera on, microphone muted unless called upon or discussing with their classmates, and to be kind and respectful. We will work through this process together.
