Curriculum

Math: Sonoran Sky fourth graders use the Eureka Math and Zearn (online portion). Please click here for a resource of our math curriculum: 4th Grade Math Roadmap

Reading: Sonoran Sky fourth graders use the McGraw-Hill Wonders. In addition, a variety of novels, short stories, and nonfiction works will be used for our reading program in class. Students will also do independent reading through our Accelerated Reader program.

Science: Foss Kits serve as the foundation of the fourth grade Science program for an inquiry based curriculum. Students will participate in science labs and projects throughout each unit. Our major units entail electricity and magnetism, rocks and minerals, and weather.

Social Studies: Arizona is the main thread found in our entire social studies curriculum in fourth grade. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of research and will utilize texts, literature, and art of the Southwest. Some major units will be Ancient and Modern Day Native American tribes, the Spanish Explorers and Missionaries, Statehood, Economics and Geography.

Writing and Language: Fourth grade focuses on paragraph structure and grammar through the use of personal narratives and expository writing. Our grade level uses a variety of resources to teach writing and grammar including Step up to Writing, Write from the Beginning, and 4 Level Sentence Grammar programs. Students will write various writing pieces throughout the year.

Character Education: Sonoran Sky uses the All Things E.Q. program. Students participate in weekly lessons, class discussions, videos and self-reflections. Our vision is to transform culture by continuously guiding the school community to “show up” positively for themselves and others, increasing student engagement, achievement, and campus-wide well-being through our digital platform.
