DSMS CHOIR ‘A’ Project Guidelines 2019-2020
In order to have the opportunity to earn an ‘A’ grade in choir, students must complete one of the following options below semester. The project chosen must have occurred during the semester.
STUDENTS IN TWO CHOIRS MUST COMPLETE TWO DIFFERENT ‘A’ PROJECTS
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ‘A’ PROJECT:
· Write your 1-2 page report on the option that you chose. Make sure the paper is labeled with your name, choir, and date.
· Share your paper via google drive with Ms Kahn at; mkahn@pvlearners.net
· If proof of attendance/verification is required, please scan the appropriate paperwork or have a parent verify your attendance via email at mkahn@pvlearners.net
· If using perfect attendance, email mkahn@pvlearners.net to indicate you are using this option for your project. If our attendance records do not match, you will not receive credit for the project.
· No hard copies of projects will be accepted this year.
OPTION 1: Prepare and perform a vocal audition; submit a typed evaluation of the audition describing the event and evaluating your preparation and performance. **Parent verification of project is needed ONLY for auditions that take place outside of school.
Audition examples include, but are not limited to:
· Community choir auditions (i.e. church/synagogue choir, .)
· 7th Grade White House Dinner
· Community Theater auditions
· High school choir auditions
OPTION 2: Attend and write an evaluation of a junior high, high school, college, or professional choral concert. ATTACH PROOF of concert attendance to your typed evaluation describing the event and evaluating it critically.
OPTION 3: Attend and write an evaluation of a junior high, high school, college, or professional musical theater production. ATTACH PROOF of concert attendance to your typed evaluation describing the event and evaluating it critically.
OPTION 4: Complete at least 6 private or group performance classes outside of school. These include private music lessons (voice, piano, guitar, etc.), dance classes, or gymnastics classes. Write a 1-2 page report describing your progress and what you are working on (see next page for details). Instructor or parent verification is required (email to Ms Kahn)
OPTION 5: Participate in an extracurricular choir (i.e. Sidewinder Singers, church/synagogue choir, Phoenix Girls/Boys/Children’s Chorus, etc.) or a community theater production. Write a 1-2 page report describing your progress and what you are working on (see below for details). Instructor or parent verification is required (email to Ms Kahn)
OPTION 6: DSMS Choir Service: Complete one of the following at Ms Kahn's discretion. Ms Kahn's approval is required before completing this option
· Creating and teaching choreography to be used in a concert
· Serving as a class dance captain
· Serving as a section leader or class officer (all duties must be completed in order for this option to count).
· Helping with tech during choir concerts
No paper is required if completing this option.
OPTION 7: Perfect Attendance: Attend each choir rehearsal for the full time every day. One tardy, early release, or absence will void this option. ONLY school-related field trips will count as excused absences. You must email Ms. Kahn on the due date to redeem this option. If our records don’t match, this option will be voided. No paper is required if completing this option.Please email Ms. Kahn by November 13th.
Performance Evaluations Should Include the following Information: (1-2 full pages typed):
-Brief Summary of the show
-What you liked and disliked
-Evaluate things such as the costumes, lighting, sets, etc.
-Evaluate the singer’s tone quality, blend, style, dynamics etc.
-Programming, length of the show, types of songs, professionalism on stage
-Copy of the program or ticket stub scanned and emailed to Ms. Kahn
Private Lesson Evaluations Should Include the following Information: (1-2 full pages typed)
-Summary of literature studied
-How you are progressing
-Recitals or performances for which you are preparing
- Instructor or parent verification emailed to Ms. Kahn for proof
‘A’ Project due dates:
Quarter 2: Friday, December 14th by 11:59
Quarter 4: Friday, May 18th
