The MYP Community Project gives 8th-grade students an opportunity to work collaboratively on a project that connects their interests to a need within their community. Throughout the process, students will investigate, plan, take action, and reflect on their learning and impact.
Students will work in groups of 3–5 with a teacher serving as their project supervisor. They are expected to spend approximately 15 hours completing the project, using a combination of class time and time outside of their academic classes.
The Community Project is a collaborative, cross-curricular experience. The Community Project Coordinator works alongside 8th-grade I&S, Art, ELA, and the Library Media Specialist to support students with research, presentation skills, project development, and communicating their learning.
The project culminates in a Community Project Showcase, where students have the opportunity to share their work, action, and learning with the school community.
