 2023-2024 MATH CLASSES

Algebra 1 - This academic course covers all basic components of algebra, including the exploration of expressions, equations, and functions, rational numbers, solving and analyzing linear equations and inequalities, proportions, graphing relations and functions, polynomials, quadratic and exponential functions, and radical expressions and equations. Graphing calculators and other technology are used when appropriate.

Honors Pre-Calculus - This course is designed to meet the needs of those exceptionally able math students who plan to go on to 2 or 4-year colleges and universities.  Selected topics will include polynomial and rational functions, as well as trigonometric and transcendental functions.  In addition to those topics normally covered in a pre-calculus course, the honors course will also explore conic sections and limits. Graphing calculators will be used extensively in this course.

Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB - This accelerated course is designed to meet the needs of those exceptionally able math students who have demonstrated a thorough proficiency in all previous college prep or honors courses.  If a student does not have his or her own graphing calculator, one will be signed out to them for the year as they will be necessary quite often to complete homework assignments.  STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SIT FOR THE AP EXAM, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN ON MONDAY, MAY 13, 2024 at 8:00 AM.  If a student passes this exam, he or she can earn college credits.  Please refer to your college of choice in determining if AP credit is accepted and what score is needed.  Additionally, this course is offered as a dual credit course, which means that the student may purchase the credits for this course through Salem Community College, regardless of AP exam score.  Click here to go to the PMHS Counseling site for more information and the forms for dual credit at SCC

Class Expectations:

1.  Arrive to class on time and prepared.

2.  Complete all homework assignments (some will be randomly graded!)

3.  Ask questions when you do not understand something.

4.  Take part in class discussions.

5.  Come to class with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and an open mind - be willing to think outside the box.
