Students in need of placement will be able to locate your information from our Partnership Map, which includes a location pin for each of your sites, along with your contact information and website. Once a student identifies a site in their area, they reach out to the organization and request a potential placement for their rotation. We do not provide individual contact information to direct supervisors; however, you may wish to designate one individual for the students to be directed to from your organization. You may interview the student to determine if they are a good fit for your organization, and discuss start dates for the rotation.
Students who are placed with your facility will need to submit the Contacts Form, as well as a copy of their supervisor's credentials. ABA students will additionally need to submit the BACB Pre-Experience Checklist.
Once the site has been secured and our Clinical Student Manager completes the process of confirming the supervisor's credentials, the student will enroll in their Practicum, Fieldwork, or Field Experience course. The students are required to complete a 10-week term and at minimum 150 hours (no ratio on direct vs. indirect hours). Addictions students are required to complete two 10-week terms and a minimum of 150 hours per term for a total of a minimum of 300 hours. Students can work on-site in your community or remotely as long as supervision is provided as required.
While in their term, they will have course assignments to complete and will meet weekly with their faculty member and fellow classmates. The faculty member will be the course instructor only. Your organization will provide the supervisor to oversee the student's work for your organization. Supervisors are required to confirm the student's hours on a regular basis, which they will receive by email. Supervisors are required to complete an evaluation document (or documents) and review them with the student.
Students understand that there are no expectations that they will be paid during their externship experience. Your affiliation agreement states that the student will not be paid. If you desire to pay a student, our Clinical Student Manager will have you sign a paid addendum indicating that the student will be paid. This then overrides the nonpaid clause in your current affiliation agreement.
