May Cybersecurity Update: Flowers and Firewalls

A firewall acts like a security guard for your network, keeping an eye on incoming and outgoing traffic based on set rules. Firewalls act as a barrier to block unauthorized access to a network while allowing legitimate traffic to pass through. The role of a firewall in cybersecurity is to protect the network from unauthorized access and cyber-attacks.

Securing your home network

Security in your home network is as important as ensuring your firewall is turned on.  Prioritizing the security of your home network is crucial. According to the National Security Agency (NSA), most home entertainment and utility devices, such as home monitoring systems, smart devices, streaming video players, and video game consoles, can access the Internet, record audio, and/or capture video. Implementing security measures can ensure these devices don’t become the weak link in your home protection.

Stay alert and informed. Heightened awareness and alertness to potential security risks can strengthen your defense against cyber threats.

As Always, Be Aware and Be Alert.

In Memory of Dr. Craig Bythewood

January 20, 1967 – April 29, 2024 of Tampa, Florida

Dr. Craig Bythewood passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 29. He was a proud father of three beautiful daughters: Mecca, Nilaja, and Nielle. He also had an incredible passion for helping others to gain financial literacy and he often spoke at schools as a volunteer.

Craig joined our university in July of 2022 as a full-time faculty member as a Finance Professor in the School of Business and IT. Prior to joining Purdue Global, he had an extensive career in business as a CFO, consultant, seminar speaker, and as a financial planner. His consulting experiences have included Fortune 500 companies such as Hewlett Packard, JPMorgan Chase, and the State of Florida. He also served as the Financial Education Director for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Craig will be greatly missed at Purdue Global, but we are confident that his spirit will live on through the many students who learned from him during his time with us.
