Lifelong Passion for Teaching Drives MaPS Dean

Jody DeKorte’s passion for providing students with the best educational experience motivates her to excel every day.

It plays a significant role in why she has succeeded at Purdue Global for more than 18 years, starting as an adjunct faculty member and progressing to department chair before being promoted to dean of the School of Multidisciplinary and Professional Studies (MaPS) in 2011.

“One of the things that always stays the same here is that we’re always changing, and we’re not afraid of that change,” DeKorte said. “We’re not afraid of making mistakes, coming back and correcting them, and moving forward for the benefit of the students.” Learn more about Jody.

Faculty Member Enjoys Off-the-Grid Lifestyle in Rural Washington State

Gustavo “Gus” Gomez and his wife of 23 years dreamed of purchasing property in a rural area and living remotely, mostly as a way to escape all the traffic and noise of the city.

Today, Gomez and his wife are more than 12 years into developing their property, which started as 80 acres of sagebrush but now features their home, a trailer, a woodworking shop, an outdoor bar, a theater, two storage buildings, a pump house and 32 solar panels that provide power to the entire property. Gomez’s closest neighbors are 2 1/2 miles away, not counting the coyotes, porcupines, and snakes that frequent the land. At 75, Gomez loves teaching at Purdue Global and says he has no plans of slowing down. Read more about Gus.
