Concord Law School officially renamed Purdue Global Law School

The renaming of Purdue Global Law School is now official.

The Purdue Global Board of Trustees in August voted to change the name of Concord Law School to Purdue Global Law School, effective Wednesday (Nov. 8).

The renaming better positions the law school’s long-term marketing and accreditation efforts and aligns with Purdue Global’s overall branding. It also meets an expectation of the Indiana Supreme Court, which is reviewing a bar licensure petition to allow the online law school’s graduates to be eligible to sit for the Indiana bar exam and become licensed to practice law in the state. Psychology Department Partners with NAADAC

Purdue Global and the Psychology Department is proud to have recently established a partnership with NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals. As part of this partnership, NAADAC members, their spouses, domestic partners, parents, siblings, and children can enjoy a tuition reductions at PG. NAADAC’s 2023 Annual Conference was held in Denver, CO from October 6 - 12. Over a thousand addiction professionals came together for the conference, which featured nationally recognized speakers. Full time faculty member Lakieshia Jones and Academic Department Chair, Dr. Bridget Rivera hosted a PG booth at the NAADAC Annual Conference. They enjoyed discussing the various psychology program offerings with potential students, industry partners, and addiction professionals. In addition, Professor Jones co-presented a session entitled “Engaging Students and Peer Recovery Support Specialists in the Addiction Profession.” The session explored how to increase student engagement in the addiction treatment profession. Best-practice techniques on how to recruit students into professional associations and how the evidence-supported benefits of having students involved in professional associations lead to improved clinical outcomes were discussed. The session was well attended and generated a robust discussion addressing students and peer recovery support.

Purdue Global Honors 22 Students with First-Generation College Student Scholarships

Like many Purdue Global students, Bradley Kars has overcome numerous obstacles in his pursuit of a college education. This includes a financial burden that just got a little lighter.

Kars is one of 22 Purdue Global students who were honored Wednesday — First-Generation College Student Day — with First-Generation College Student Scholarships. Recipients received $500 toward their Purdue Global tuition and fees. The number of recipients is based on the funds raised annually through the Purdue for Life Foundation ($11,000 this year).

“This scholarship means more to me than words can express,” Kars said. “As a first-generation college student, the journey has been filled with a unique set of challenges. The financial burden of pursuing higher education can be daunting, but this scholarship provides not only financial support but also a tremendous boost in motivation and confidence. It reminds me that I’m on the right path and that all the hard work and dedication are paying off.” Read more about the First Generation Scholarship and its recipients.

PGLS Competes in Moot Court Tournament

Matthew Tollestrup and Mark Trapp represented Purdue Global Law School at the 34th Annual National Criminal Procedure Moot Court Tournament at the University of San Diego School of Law from November 3 - 5, 2023. They advanced to the octofinal round, which means that they were ranked in the top 16 of the 31 teams participating. During that round, they narrowly lost to the team from UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) that eventually competed in the final round and took second place overall.

The problem this year was based on Fourth and Fifth Amendment law, involving issues of a warrantless entry and search of a home on the apparent authority of a minor, and whether a Miranda warning was required for secondary questioning at a Customs entry port at an airport. The team members received extremely positive feedback throughout the competition from the competition judges.

The team was coached by Associate Dean of Experiential Learning Kelley Mauerman. Associate Dean Mauerman was enthusiastic in her praise of the team, stating, "I have coached and judged moot court teams at several law schools since 2009 and without a doubt, this is one of the best teams I have ever coached. They were amazing from start to finish." Dean Martin Pritikin, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Shaun Jamison, and Professors Somita Basu, David Cook, Sheri Dennis, Angela Dixon, Heather Hall, Lori Tripoli, and Brian Victor provided valuable assistance at the team’s many practice sessions.
