Limited Attendance Update: Removal of 14/21 Day Attendance Policy

Effective August 23, 2023, Purdue Global made its final step to becoming a limited attendance university. The mandatory 14/21 day attendance policies are no longer in effect.

Important considerations for faculty:

Faculty should contact their academic chair with any questions about the attendance changes. As a reminder, Purdue Global has a census policy which was implemented in April 2023. Students must complete an approved academic activity in the first 12 calendar days of each term to meet the University's census policy. Students who do not complete an approved academic activity within the first 12 calendar days of each term, will be withdrawn from the course(s) and potentially withdrawn from PG.

October Commencement "Last Lecture" Speaker Selected

Congratulations to Lynda Mitton, Psychology Faculty in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences who will deliver the Last Lecture for the October 2023 graduating class! The Last Lecture is delivered by a professor nominated by students for their impact at Purdue Global, having made a significant difference in the student’s educational journey. This commencement tradition takes place during graduation week and celebrates the journey of both students and faculty.

The concept of the Last Lecture is inspired by the book of the same name written by Randy Pausch, which focuses on life lessons and insights that the author would want to share if he knew he was giving his final lecture. The event closes with Provost Harbor delivering a virtual toast to the graduating class, offering a moment of celebration and acknowledgment of the achievements of Purdue Global graduates.

Join the Last Lecture on October 17, 2023 from 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm ET in Zoom. Visit the Commencement Showroom for more information about commencement activities.

Don’t Fear Generative AI Tools in the Classroom

Stuart Collins is always looking for good conversation topics during his American government and civics courses at Purdue Global.

Collins, a faculty member in the School of Multidisciplinary and Professional Studies, recently focused a class discussion on 2023’s debt ceiling negotiations in class, but with a twist: He used a generative artificial intelligence tool, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, during the seminar.

This example of a Purdue Global faculty member’s use of generative AI within an academic context might be a glimpse into the classroom of the future. Purdue Global, which is Purdue’s online university for working adults, is at the forefront of exploring AI opportunities in higher education, with an AI task force drawing on the creativity and innovative thinking of faculty, students and staff. How Purdue Global’s Latest Campaign Empowers Students to Make a Comeback

The strength of a trusted and distinct brand is unquestionable. According to renowned brand strategist Tom Roach, “Brands are probably the most powerful and versatile business tool ever invented. And yet there’s a growing breed of business leaders who behave as if creating a famous, preferred, distinctive brand is an unnecessary luxury.”

In higher education—with waning public trust in the overall product and its cost, and yet more than 5,000 brick-and-mortar and online universities and colleges to choose from—having a distinct brand is anything but an unnecessary luxury. In fact, today it matters more than ever. Read more of this piece written by Purdue Global Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer R. Ethan Braden.

Pride@Purdue Global Celebrates Bisexual Awareness Week

Join the Pride@Purdue Global Employee Resource Group in recognizing Bisexual Awareness Week, which starts September 16 and culminates in Bi Visibility Day on September 23. Individuals who identify as bi+ (bisexual, pansexual, fluid, no label, etc.) make up almost half the LGBTQIA2+ population (HRC, 2021). Yet bisexual people experience invisibility and discrimination in both straight and queer communities. As a result, they are less likely to come out than their gay or lesbian peers, leading to poorer health outcomes and higher rates of anxiety and depression. Bisexual Awareness Week is an essential opportunity to support, raise awareness of, and celebrate the bi+ community within Purdue Global and beyond.
