The PG SON Faculty Scholarship Committee proudly presents its Lunch N’ Learn Series. The Lunch N’ Learn title is “Becoming a Special Edition Journal Editor: From Idea to Publication”. Dr Deborah Adelman and Dr LauraKay Wood are the presenters. The virtual 45-minute Lunch N’ Learn will be held on July 22, 2025, @ 12:00 PM EST.
Outcomes: By the end of the presentation, the participant will be able to:
#1 Identify two ideas for a special edition nursing journal.
#2 Select two journals that would support their writing ideas for a special edition.
#3 Break down the role of a special issues editor.
#4 Choose appropriate peer reviewers for submitted manuscripts.
Dr. Adelman is a full-time member of the PG MSN faculty. Over the course of her career, she has published more than 30 articles, a chapter in a medical/surgical textbook, and a disaster textbook. She has published on competencies and excellence in disaster nursing and published in nurse practitioner journals on how nurse practitioners perceive patient portals and medication alerts impeding quality care by nurse practitioners. She has co-authored a 5-part series on disaster response for nurse practitioners. In this presentation, she will share with us how to come up with creative ideas for a special issue of a nursing journal.
Dr. Wood is a full-time faculty member in the PG MSN program. A distinguished nurse educator and scholar, she has authored many peer-reviewed national and international articles. Her scholarly work includes topics such as competencies and excellence in disaster nursing, health and wellness, human trafficking, and nurse practitioner practice with patient portals. Dr. Wood has also co-authored a widely recognized five-part series on disaster response for nurse practitioners. In addition to her extensive academic contributions, using a unique blend of innovation and strategic thinking, she will guide participants in identifying and shaping thought-provoking topics suitable for special issues in peer-reviewed nursing journals.

This session will provide a broad overview of AI-enhanced research tools like Consensus, Elicit, Perplexity, Research Rabbit, Elicit, Moara, and Scite. We’ll talk about common features, what workflows these tools could help, and barriers to access. Additionally, we’ll review AI enhancements in research tools licensed by the PG Library like EBSCO, ProQuest, and Statista.

Matt has been PG's Director of Library Services since 2012. He has led many successful projects during that time, including implementing a discovery service, establishing document delivery services, and creating an institutional repository. He is highly self-motivated to continuously improve library services to increase usability and engagement for all users. He graduated from Indiana University with an MLS and completed an MBA with Purdue Global. He lives in Chicago, within walking distance of a major source of both his joys and frustrations, Wrigley Field.

Dr. Amy Daly is the DNP Program Lead and Professor of Nursing in the DNP program at Purdue University Global. She has over 46 years of nursing experience in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, telephone triage, nursing administration, and nursing education. Dr. Daly is an on-site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). She is a Certified Online Instructor and holds Executive Management certification and Project Management Certification.
