Aloha,
My name is Andrew Chang, but I like to go by Pomai. I was born in Taiwan, adopted when I was a few months old, and have lived in Hawaii my whole life. In my free time, I love playing Chess, playing video games with friends, and staying informed on current events.
Throughout my 13-year journey at Punahou, I've interacted with and experienced many unique cultures; subsequently, it inspired me to create and strengthen relationships between diverse people from all backgrounds. In particular, I seek to advocate for those who lack representation by championing diverse perspectives. Like many in Hawaii, my family is diverse: some are Chinese, others are Native Hawaiian, and some live on Hawaiian Homestead or more in affluent neighborhoods. Even though a growing many might despise my unique cultural heritage, my diversity is part of who I am. No matter the cost, I will remain loyal to my humble beginnings and utilize my opportunities to help others, regardless of who they are.
As I aspire to promote interconnectivity, I've worked closely with those in my community and local government to create and implement proactive solutions to address challenges in Hawaii. Whether through supporting the many disenfranchised Indigenous peoples or the youth of Hawaii, I hope to create a society where all have a voice.
The choice to serve your community selflessly is a tough one. Devoting yourself to many grueling hours of tedious work without recognition cannot be done by anyone; however, it is clear to me that the sacrifice is well worth it.
We as a collective face numerous challenges—many of which have been caused by ourselves—thus, it is crucial to implement proactive solutions to address the complex problems threatening our continued existence. We must strive to consider all of humanity's perspectives, not just a select few.
Humanity may have many flaws, but our strengths must be cherished and cultivated. I shall continue to protect and advocate for the good of humanity, no matter the cost.
