Civic Education

As a high school student, I often felt as if youth voices were not valued in politics. I felt there was no way to make a change. However, through courses and organizations or groups that I've participated in, I realized that there are ways to get involved and for youth voices to be heard. I believe that through educating young people on how to participate in politics, a generation of change-makers will be created. 

Civil Discourse 

Through the University of Chicago's Parrhesia Freedom of Expression and Civil Discourse pre-college summer program, I was able to discover just how important expression of ideas and meaningful discourse are. I believe that by engaging in tough conversations civilly, we can be more productive in making solutions for issues.  

Climate Justice 

On August 8, 2023, I lost a home. The Maui fires destroyed my grandma’s home in Lahaina, my dad’s childhood home, and the town he grew up in. The most painful part was not being able to do anything to stop the fire or help my family. Although climate change has always been an issue I was passionate about solving, the fires have renewed and emboldened my dedication to it. The rising temperatures and extreme winds fueled the fires that destroyed a sacred place and I want to prevent that from happening to someone else’s home or community.
