This novel is told entirely from a dog's perspective. If you love animals and a good love story, and maybe have an interest in car racing (I don't and still liked the book), then check this out! (By the way, the book is better than the movie!) Also, I listened to this audiobook via Punahou's Sora app!

The voice is so strong and funny. This satirical twist on a classic (Huckleberry Finn) is my favorite kind of read.

It's a powerful and beautiful coming of age novel, about a boy wrestling with questions of identity, race, relationships, and disease. His struggles are moving and compelling.

It's about growing up, coming to understand the world you're born into, and finding your purpose---exactly what I hope our students are doing.
-Dr. Max Kutler
This book is for anyone who enjoyed the magic and world building of Harry Potter but wonders what would happen to a similar hero at the end of their school adventures.

I read lots of different stuff (like any reader, my recommended list could have 1,000 books on it) so I donʻt usually recommend books because I have no idea what other people like. I do think people should read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot just because EVERYONE should know that story.

This is a great book for readers who enjoy gripping, fast-paced stories about ambition, betrayal, and the messy realities of race and representation. Perfect for students who want drama that makes them think.

Touching novel about love, grief, guilt, and finding happiness. Set in and around Hilo in 1935.

A very human depiction of the war in Việt Nam told from a Vietnamese perspective. Beautiful, heart wrenching story of family, love, and the struggle to live through war.

This was my first graphic novel and I enjoyed it. The story is about Iran and the Iranian Revolution. I enjoyed learning this first hand account of a young girl going through this historical event. But reading it in 2025 I also saw many parallels with events happening in the United States currently. I think young adults may find the parallels eye opening while also learning about this major historical event.
