Martin Luther King, Jr. traveled to Hawaii in September 1959 to enjoy a brief vacation and join in statehood celebrations. The celebrations included appearances before the Honolulu Ministerial Union, Honolulu Council of Churches, Hawaii House of Representatives, a Pearl Harbor tour and, interestingly, a speech to Punahou School students on September 15, 1959.

A pandemic is defined as “an epidemic occurring worldwide, or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries and usually affecting a large number of people”. The classical definition includes nothing about population immunity, virology or disease severity.
