Program Purpose
In the VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge.
Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Tournaments are held year-round at the regional, state, and national levels and culminate at the VEX Robotics World Championship each April!

Program History
The Northern Middle School Robotics Program (NMS_RP) is a competition based extra-curricular activity. Students work in teams designing, building, programming, and competing with their robotic creations in a competition robotics game.
The Northern Middle School Robotics Program competes against robotic teams in and around the central Kentucky area-and possibly in the annual international robotics competition. The VEX Robotic Competition (VRC) is a sport of the mind. Competition tournaments blend principles of integrated problem solving, team-work and leadership.
The VEX Robotics Competition program was introduced to Northern Middle School in school year of 2014-15. Northern studied the league and the program but choose to not participate that year. The next year (2015-16) marked NMS's start of competition participation. From this small start, the program has grown steadily. In the beginning NMS Robotics Program was lucky to attract 10 students to join, for the school year 2023-24 the first meeting welcomed over 40 interested students.
Highlights of the program were being able to place two teams in the international robotics competition for the school years of 2017-18 and 2022-23. Since the programs inception NMS_RP has won multiple Design and Inspiration awards. Additionally NMS_RP has a distinguished history of all teams qualifying for state competition and with many of those teams placing in the quarterfinalist and semi-finalist rounds.
The Northern Middle School Robotics Program is very proud of our achievements and the handwork invested by everyone involved.
