This is Ms. Herring
Hello, I'm Darreion S. and this is my interview. I'm interviewing Ms. Herring. She is a good teacher by making sure everyone is on track and using time wisely. She also makes sure we do our work. Have fun learning about Ms. Herring.
I asked Ms. Herring, "How does it feel to teach learning strategies?" She replied, "Teaching learning strategies has been a great opportunity. I get to work with students that are in need of help with homework and missing assignments, but the real joy comes from getting to have fun with the students. We talk about important issues in the world and sometimes even debate these issues. I enjoy getting to know my students and allowing them a chance to know me."
I said, "What do you think is the hardest part about learning strategies?" She also said, "The most difficult part about this class is monitoring the level of freedom each student has. Sometimes students don't have any work to get done and if you're not careful the class can become just a hang-out spot. So, it is about finding a balance between fun and productive days."
I asked, "When did you start teaching? She replied, "I began teaching as an intern in 2021."
What inspired you to become a teacher? "I was inspired by so many things. I had the best experience with teachers in the public school setting when I was younger and they definitely have impacted my decision to become a teacher. In addition, I was inspired by the African American students that I worked with as a paraeducator who stated they desired to learn from more adults that looked like them. I love all students and the connections made makes teaching so rewarding."
How do you want to be remembered by your students? "I want to be remembered as a teacher who cared enough to meet my students where they were at the time they came into my classroom, but believed enough to push them into the places they could go when they left me."
Do you ever feel sad or worried about the future of the students who don’t work? "Honestly, there are times I am concerned. Sometimes it feels like this generation has much information given to them. So once they have reached a certain point, their work ethic disappears. I hope that students begin to realize the skills and habits that matter to succeed in life are created over time and school is an important place that that happens."
Ms Herring is a good teacher--I had her for 7th and 8th grades. She cares about her students and she is always dedicated to helping out when people need it. She makes sure everyone is using their planners wisely and making sure everything is updated and up to date enjoy this interview.
Bye Pumas
