Patrick J. Jenkins
Q1: What are your steps of the day? What do you do?
A. Upon arrival, I conduct a sweep of the campus to make sure there's nothing threatening to students or staff on the campus.
Then I station the crosswalk and 5 mph signs in the student drop off zones.
Next, I open the bus zone gates for the students and the parking gate for the staff.
After, I ensure all 8 buses arrive and safely drop off students and that students enter the campus in a timely manner. I also secure the gates when all students and staff are inside.
Throughout the day I patrol the campus and bathroom areas to ensure the safety of students.
Q2: Do you enjoy working at Pinacate Middle School? Why?
A. Yes. I enjoy working at PMS because I have the opportunity to meet so many different people, staff and students and I get the opportunity to help those in need. Some of the students are hilarious, but at the same time others keep you on your toes.
Q3: Do you have breaks?
A. Yes
Q4: How long have you been working at Pinacate?
A. 15 yrs
Q5: What is the weirdest thing a kid has told you before?
A.That's confidential, I won't betray a students trust unless it's absolutely necessary.
Q6: What's a memory you will never forget about working here?
A. While I was coaching the girls basketball team, the excitement they displayed after winning their very first game.
Q7: How do you handle situations involving unauthorized individuals on campus?
A. I always call for backup and kindly escort them off campus.
Q8: What made you become a campus supervisor?
A. I've always felt very strongly about the safety of others , so after retiring from the military, I thought this would be a way to continue providing that safety.
Q9: Can you describe your approach to maintaining a visible and proactive presence on campus to deter inappropriate behavior and ensure a safe environment?
A. You have to dress professionally and act accordingly, treat everyone with respect that you would have them treat you. Meet the problem head on and don't try to mislead anyone. If you don't have the answer to the students' question, redirect them to someone who does.
Q10: In an event between students, how would you intervene to deescalate the situation and prevent further issues?
A. Address the issue at hand! Listen to both sides and try to come to a resolution that both students will accept and mostly importantly help them understand that "Violence" is never the answer!!
