Where did brownies come from, how were they invented/created?
To begin with, brownies originated in the United States, but from whom exactly? Say hello to Bertha Palmer, who served at a the Columbian Exposition World's Fair in 1893. The brownie was created in the Palmer house kitchen in the late 19th century. Bertha asked a pastry chef for a mere dessert that is suitable for ladies attending the Chicago Columbian Exposition fair, when requesting for a small for a cake-like piece than just a cake so it can be included in boxed lunches. As a result, the treat became the Palmer House Brownie made up of chocolate with walnuts, with an apricot glaze. The Palmer House Brownie, serves as a dessert as a name from the same recipe.
The name was given to it after some time in 1893, but it wasn't such a great start at that time and not used in cooking books or journals. Being first known as "Brownie" for its name for a dessert, it appeared in a cookbook and in reference to cakes based individually in molds. Being in the name of "Brownies food" the recipe appears on a specific book page in the cake section, Marie Kelley created the recipe. The earliest design/modern style established and published in a recognizable we know as today, in a chocolate style.
