I grew up in the Midwest in a small town on the Ohio River. My high school graduating class had 20 students in it. From there I was off to The University of Notre Dame. Go Irish! Following college, there was an AmeriCorps opportunity for me to teach PE and computers at a K-8 school in the Mission District of San Francisco. I decided to stay in California and instructed biology and chemistry at an all-girls high school while attending evening and weekend classes to obtain my credential and masters. One morning a stranger tried to mooch my granola bar while we were waiting for class to start, so of course I married him.
I've always been drawn to courses that can be difficult to learn and therefore to teach so I've picked up math and Spanish along the way. I'm never going to be bored!
My family is #1 for me. I have a daughter and a son. My daughter graduated from Placer and is studying neuroscience at the University of Kentucky. My son is a junior at Granite Bay HS and my husband teaches there. My favorite activities outside of school are hiking, paddleboarding, genealogy, tide-pooling, and sleeping in the sand at the beach. We live on a hobby farm so you can also find me taking care of our Nigerian dwarf goats, chickens, and dogs. My husband is a fabulous cook and since he won't go on Iron Chef we get him all to ourselves. He makes a mouth-watering Beef Wellington. Sushi is another family favorite.
Once you get into math, you see it everywhere because math is just patterns and how to represent and predict events with those patterns. There are a few pictures below of activities that I have done with my family. I hope that I'm able to help you see math everywhere too.
