Building a Mathematical Mindset (Jo Boaler):
The way we use these projects in our high school is as an intervention model and support for hands on learning. Any student in Integrated 1, 2, or 3 and concurrently in shop class, can work with their math teacher to select one of the projects that fulfill their academic need. The student builds the project with their shop teacher, works through the online curriculum with their math teacher and presents their project and learning to their math class for extra credit.
Lessons to develop number sense:
This is a set of engaging wood projects that combine the skills of a wood manufacturing lab with the academic rigor of a college prep math class. All projects and coursework can be completed for Algebra 2 math credit. These projects are easy for every shop teacher to build and have curriculum that every math teacher will love. These projects can all be built with only a laser cutter.
The students will design, manufacture, and assemble projects that require high level math coursework, design, and manufacturing skills.
Alternatively, each project is self contained and can be used individually in many different math classes. All projects have video tutorials on how to build the project and curriculum to cover specific math topics.
