Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I need to take the SAT/ACT?
All PTHS juniors take the SAT for free at the beginning of March.
If you missed this opportunity or would like to retest for a higher score, visit www.collegeboard.org to sign up for a day! PTHS does not offer retakes.
If you're interested in registering for the ACT (similar to the SAT, but has a science section), go to www.act.org.
2) How do I take a college day?
Go to the college's website and find the link about scheduling a visit.
Let your teachers know ahead of time that you will be out on a certain day and get the work you'll miss.
While at your college visit, ask for a school note that has the college's name, your name and the date you were there. Turn this note into the counseling center upon your return.
If this note is turned in, you will be marked present for that day. You get 2 college days during your senior year. Any days taken beyond that will be absences.
3) Do I have to fill out the FAFSA?
Completing the FAFSA (financial aid application for college) is a graduation requirement in the state of Texas.
You must complete the FAFSA or fill out an opt out form (available in the counseling center).
4) What if I can't afford to pay for a cap and gown?
Come see Mrs. Rue or Mrs. Torres in the counseling center. We have a limited amount of caps and gowns that you can borrow.
