The text analysis exemplars that feature on this site have been designed to support students to make the connection between reading and writing. They can be adapted and used in various ways, but I have used them to place specific emphasis on certain techniques and to encourage my learners to note their effect as readers, before trialling them as writers. They could also be used as exemplars to introduce new topics and genres to a class.
I found that the discussion around the exemplars was crucial for my students to be able to evaluate them as both readers and writers. Initially I needed to facilitate this and provide more scaffolding, but later my students were able to discuss the text in small groups.
