Week 10

WALT: gain an understanding of figurative language.

Instructions:

  1. Monday: Write a narrative to end Term 3
  2. Play the Figurative Language Game and complete the task.
  3. Add your own original drawing to explain an example of figurative language to our class slide deck here. Then, post your drawing/explanation on your blog.

Week 9

WALT: Write conclusion paragraph.

Instructions:

  1. As a class, we will spend some time going through some of our own explanation paragraphs from Week 8.
  2. Using your learning task from Week 8, write a conclusion to your explanation.
  3. Ask someone from class to read your rough draft and offer feedback for you to make corrections using the peer editing rubric as a guide.
  4. Post your assignment on your blog. Be sure to title it, write a task description and turn it in to the Turn In Sheet.
  5. Fast Finishers: Add a slide to your assignment from Week7, and write a conclusion for each topic provided.

Week 8

WALT: Write a SEE paragraph.

Instructions:

  1. As a class, we will spend some time brainstorming what we remember about writing an information paragraph from Term 1.
  2. Using your learning task from Week 6/7, choose a topic for you to continue to use to write your SEE paragraphs. Be sure to add your introduction from your Week 6/7 assignment to your planning.
  3. Post your assignment on your blog. Be sure to title it, write a task description and turn it in to the Turn In Sheet.

Week 7

WALT: write a hook for an explanation

Instructions:

  1. As a class, we will spend some time brainstorming what we remember about writing a hook from Term 1.
  2. Watch the video about hooking our reader. Pay special attention to the types of hooks that would work best for explanation writing.
  3. Using your learning task from Week 6, add a slide behind each topic and write a hook for each topic using blue font. Then, put your Thesis Statement from Week 6 after the hook on the new slide in red font.
  4. Fast Finishers: Select a topic from the learning task, and using this doc write an explanation. Or continue the explanation you started in Week 6 if you were a fast finisher then.
  5. Post your assignment on your blog. Be sure to title it, write a task description and turn it in to the Turn In Sheet.

Week 6

WALT: write a thesis sentence

Instructions:

  1. As a class, we will spend some time brainstorming what we remember about explanation writing.
  2. Watch the video about expository/explanation writing. Pay special attention to the thesis statement section.
  3. Complete this learning task on your own or with a partner.
  4. Fast Finishers: Select a topic from the learning task, and using this doc write an explanation.
  5. Post your assignment on your blog. Be sure to title it, write a task description and turn it in to the Turn In Sheet.

Weeks 4/5

WALT: recognise how advertisements use persuasion

Instructions:

  1. As a class, we will spend some time looking at advertisements and deciding which things we already know.
  2. Complete this learning task on your own or with a partner.
  3. In a group of 2-4 complete the Create task as described to the right.
    1. Week 4: Write your script and practice your lines.
    2. Week 5: Film and Edit

Week 3

WALT: write about a supported opinion

Instructions:

  1. What do hamburgers have to do work writing a paragraph? As a class, we will spend some time discussing this.
  2. After discussing Persuasive word choice as a class, we will begin writing our essays on Monday using our Persuasive Maps as a guide.
  3. Wed: We will spend some time revising our essays and checking for specific persuasive elements as discussed in class. Then, we will peer edit before taking the time to revise our essays.
  4. Post your persuasive essay on your blog. Include a screenshot of your graphic organiser. Be sure to title it, write a task description and turn it in to the Turn In Sheet.

Week 2

WALT: write about a supported opinion

Instructions:

  1. What does it mean to form an opinion? As a class, we will spend some time discussing this.
  2. Watch the video as a class, and then use what we learn from the video to help support our opinion.
  3. Using the topic discussed in class, fill in this graphic organiser and when you haven finished select the option to save.
  4. Using your graphic organiser as a guide, write your persuasive essay.
  5. Post your persuasive essay on your blog. Include a screenshot of your graphic organiser. Be sure to title it, write a task description and turn it in to the Turn In Sheet.

Week 1

WALT: write a persuasive paragraph.

Instructions:

  1. What does it mean to be persuasive? As a class, we are going to spend some time exploring this.
  2. Watch the video as a class, and then use the video to add to your brainstorm list.
  3. Using your persuasive brainstorm list, create a WordCloud to post on your blog as described in the learning task.
  4. After completing the agree/disagree slide begin formulating your examples to help you write your own persuasive paragraph.
  5. Post your persuasive paragraph on your blog. Be sure to title it "Persuasive Paragraph" and turn it in to the Turn In Sheet.
