Room 7 Byron Stephenson

Kia ora, I’m Byron and I am teaching In Room 7 this year. This is my first year at Pt Chevalier, previously I taught at Edendale School for 2 ½ years. I have a background in sports and coaching in a variety of different sports. I am also the Sports Coordinator at Pt Chev this year. I am passionate about teaching Literacy, PE, and Maths through real life contexts.

I am very excited about spending this year with my awesome Room 7 learners. I look forward to developing strong connections with our Pt Chevalier School community throughout the year.

Room 9 Marissa Long

I'm Marissa and I have the privilege of teaching Room 9 this year.

This is my first year teaching full time as I have spent the last four years completing a Bachelor of Education and honours specialising in mathematics and science education.

I am passionate about seeing students reach their potential in all aspects of their lives and for them to monitor and further their own progress in this.

Suite 1718 Hayley Willis & Juliet Pendleton

Hayley ~ I have been teaching at Pt Chevalier for many years because I adore working at this school. My mantra is to 'Maximise the Moment' and inspire children to be the best version of themselves. I have taught all year levels apart from Intermediate and have been in Tōtara Team for the past four and a half years.

I am very much looking forward to a positive year teaching your child in Suite 1718, where taking ownership of your learning is paramount, encouraged and supported through reflection.

Juliet ~ I am one of the teachers in Suite 1718. I am also the Team Leader for the Tōtara Team.

I have taught all year groups from Year 2 – Year 8 but I really enjoy the Year 5/6 level. I have been at Point Chevalier School since 2009 and have previously taught in other Auckland schools and in London.

My particular passion is children taking ownership of their learning – knowing exactly where they have come from, where they are going to and what they need to do to get there. I believe in children self-managing, using digital tools to support them and thoroughly enjoy working with all of the learners in our learning space.

Room 19 Debby Rafter & Amanda Will

Hi, I'm Debby Rafter. I have been teaching for many years and have taught in South Africa and the U.K. I have now settled in New Zealand- lucky me!

I love teaching and learning in Room 19 and am lucky to be sharing this job with Amanda. It is a pleasure to work with students who are so good at managing themselves and their learning!

Hi, I'm Amanda and I have the pleasure of being both a teacher and parent at Pt Chevalier School!

I was relieving here last year and am now enjoying a job-share role with Debby Rafter in Rm 19. I love building relationships with and seeing progress in children and I missed that when relieving.

I have taught in several Auckland schools and in London, too. Most of my experience is with Year 5 and 6 so I am happy to be back with that year group in Tōtara team!

Room 20 Miriam Paxie

Hello, I'm Miriam. I started at Pt Chevalier this year and have really enjoyed meeting the students and getting to know them. I really enjoy learning and have a great love of words and language be it reading, writing or numerical. Our class is looking at how we link and use our learning in our lives, especially the five key competencies which flow through everything we do.

Room 21 Nicole Beaver

My name is Nicole and I am the teacher in Room 21. I have been teaching at Pt Chevalier since 2009.

I love working at this school, the children are impassioned learners and I love nurturing their creativity.

Room 22 Nick Van den Borst

Hola, soy Nick! I am very excited to be working at Pt Chevalier School. I love my job and helping students find their strengths. I started my career in Wellington teaching at Tawa Intermediate. After that I worked in London for a few years teaching Year 4. I decided I needed a big adventure and took an exciting job at an amazing International school in Bogota, Colombia. I enjoy teaching in New Zealand and I am especially enjoying the amazing learners at Pt Chevalier School!
