Distance Learning Overview

What is Distance Learning?

Distance learning is a way of learning remotely. It does not require any face-to-face interaction between teachers and students. Another term commonly used for Distance Learning is Remote Learning.

There are several types of distance learning but the two that will be most important to us are synchronous and asynchronous learning.

Synchronous vs Asynchronous Learning
Synchronous learning requires students to log in and participate at the same time. It is very similar to the timeline in a traditional classroom. This could also include requiring students to log in for video conferencing at certain times.
Asynchronous learning is a little more flexible and allows students to participate at their own pace. It gives students the ability to dive deeper into content and interact more with their peers.

Why are we doing this?

On March 13, 2020 the order from Riverside County came in, requiring schools to close, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As educators we are committed to providing continued learning for our students. Although students are not required to participate, we still need to provide them the opportunity.
