You don't need to buy any coursebooks for the course (horray!!). All materials will be shared through the Course Canvas site so make sure you are able to access this BEFORE the class begins.
1. Read the Course Calendar posted on Canvas homepage > Important Materials
2. Read the PPT (power point slides) posted at the beginning of the class to get a sense of what the class is going to be about.
3. Bring a charged laptop since in every class meeting you need to produce writing work for your Engagement grade. Don't plan to charge your laptop in class because many classrooms usually has only limited outlets AND you may not sitting next to it either.
4. Bring a notebook and pen/pencil to take notes of improtant lecture/discussion talking points
You can only do the Absent Memo for a total of 3 absences. After that, you will lose Engagement grades if you are absent.
Generally, you cannot submit assignments late since it is your responsibility to manage your time and yourself to be able to submit assignment on time and this is part of the goal of the course. However, I do understand that this might be your first college course, you might miss a few assignments.
So, I have embedded 30 points at the beginning of the course that serves as bonus points. The 30 bonus points will give you a total of 6 days (5 pts/day). You can use this for any assignments, but perhaps, it is a good idea to use it for ‘big’ assignments worth more than 50 points. So, if you submit an assignment one day late, I will deduct 5 pts off your Bonus points Assignment (posted on Home>Important Materials).
To use the late pass, follow the steps below:
Go to Important Materials > 4. Late Passes and then, "Start Assignment". Write in the text entry, which assignment you want to submit late (Write the number and name) and how many late passes you are going to use. E.g. I want to use 1 late pass for 6.2 Project Proposal. Remember, that one pass is equal to one day.
When you submit an assignment one day late, I will deduct 5 pts off from your late pass. If you submit an assignment two days late, then, I will deduct 10 pts. Since you only have a total of 30 pts for your late pass, that means, you cannot submit assignments more than 6 days late. Any assignments submitted more than 6 days late will be graded zero.
At the end of the semester, you can keep any remaining late passes as bonus points.
RESUBMISSION: Can I resubmit assignments for a better grade?
The short answer is “no”. There is no resubmission policy of assignments. This means once you submit assignments, you cannot resubmit after you receive comments from me. My feedback is to help you understand where you can improve and you can address this for later assignments.
I put great thought and care into assigning final grades, so if you’d like me to reconsider your final grade for the course, you should have proof that I’ve made a mathematical miscalculation. I will not reconsider final course grades for any other reason.
