Department of Chemistry, P. S. M. O. College, Tirurangadi was established as an undergraduate department in 1972. It was subsequently upgraded to a post graduate department in 1998 and was recognized as an authorized research centre by University of Calicut in 2014. In addition to the three regular programmes (B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D.), the department also offers some certificate courses relevant to the discipline during each academic year.

The well-qualified and motivated Faculty members make the Chemistry department the most sought after department by the students of Malabar area who aspire to pursue chemistry. The faculty puts in a concerted effort to ensure that the students get inspired to strive for higher education. The members of the department aim at integrating teaching with research under the same umbrella. Thereby many of our students get enrolled to prestigious institutions of higher learning after completing their qualifying degree from the department. At the same time, many of our students during their period of study in the college get selected for various Summer Research Internships offered by Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). Furthermore, publications by faculty members in high impact journals and an on-going major research project, under the scheme “Teacher Associateship for Research Excellence (TARE)”of Science Engineering Research Board (SERB), are testimony to our commitment to research. We stand firm for excellence and equity in higher education.
