The Raul Yzaguirre Middle School Orchestras are made up of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. 6th graders begin with no knowledge of how to play their instruments. 7th and 8th grade groups are required to perform and represent our school through various competitions and events.
The Orchestra can play many types of music from Classical, Rock, Pop, Movie, and everything else! If you want to play Mariachi in High School, Orchestra is a good way to get in there.
Absolutely! Many of our students are also in sports, cheerleading, student council, and other UIL groups.
Every student can join the Orchestra, even new 7th and 8th graders. New students will be placed in the Beginner group, and returning students will be placed in the correct performing group.
You have a choice of four different instruments: The Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass.
The violin is the smallest instrument in the group. It has the highest pitch of the group.
The viola is slightly larger than the violin but is played the same way. It produces the lower soothing sounds of the orchestra.
The cello is the second largest instrument in the orchestra. It is played sitting down and is the instrument that sounds the closest to the human voice.
The bass is the largest instrument and lowest sounding instrument in the orchestra. It is the foundation and most important instrument in the group.
No matter how big or small you are, you can play any of the orchestra instruments because they are made in all sizes!
Still can't decide which instrument? Watch the video below where I describe what Orchestra and each instrument is all about!
