First Grade

Homework Expectations

Students will be given a packet on Monday. They will then complete one page a night and spend 10 minutes working on it. Parents will sign off on this each night. On Friday morning, students will independently turn in their homework to their teacher. Students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes a night in addition to their packet work.

November First Grade Benchmarks

  • Reading

Read at level F or above

Read for at least 10 minutes independently

Know all consonant and short vowel sounds

Identify capital and lowercase letters

Read 60/70 high frequency words

Can tell the difference between fiction and informational text

Writing

Write independently for 10 minutes

Use correct letter formation

Write an informational piece that includes at least 3 facts about a topic

Write a 2-line story from their life including some details.

Math

Add and Subtract +1, -1, +0

Count forward by ones by any two-digit number to 100

Can create combinations of numbers

Able to solve simple word problems using addition and subtraction with pictures, numbers, and words for support

Work Habits

Follow directions and exhibit self-control

Work independently to complete assignments

Work cooperatively in a small group or with a partner

Participate in whole class discussions

Complete and turn in homework on time

    • MathABC website offers your child the possibility of practicing math from Grades 1-6. When using the site’s very wide range of subjects and sums, basic math skills will be trained by various exercises in an attractive environment.
    • Xtra Math This site will help to develop effective, efficient, adaptive, and intrinsically rewarding supplemental math activities.
