OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW
The Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS) continues its commitment to deliver specialized secondary education with strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education by continuously offering curriculum suited to a rapidly evolving educational landscape shaped by innovation and interdisciplinary demands.
To deliver, the PSHSS will gather its Grade 9 teachers to a National Teachers’ Convention (NTC) to immerse and deepen their understanding in the new Grade 9 curriculum, ensure clarity in the curriculum standards, desired competencies, and performance expectations. This will give the teachers the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, collaborative workshops as well as refine the pedagogical approaches towards effective curriculum implementation.Likewise, this is also the best time for them to hear the sharing of best practices, and exchange instructional materials that will also help in the delivery of dynamic and learner-centered instructions.
The theme for this year’s NTC is “From Standards to Impact: Strengthening the Curriculum and Assessment Practices”, emphasizing the need to move beyond compliance with the learning standards toward achieving the desired learning outcomes. By aligning the curriculum design with assessment practices, educators can ensure that teaching not only meets requirements but also achieve the desired skills and deep understanding of students.
The 2026 NTC will be divided into two (2) main parts: 1st part is the plenary sessions of various speakers on curriculum and assessment, and the second part is the curriculum summits of all subject areas in Grade 9. The teacher-participants are expected to apply the insights gained from the convention to review the standards of the new curriculum, teaching strategies for its implementation in classroom instruction and assessment, and collaborate with other subject areas to come up with an integrated plan of activities and assessments.
The NTC, an annual training-workshop, which will be held at PSHS-Main Campus, Diliman, Quezon City, with the daily themes as follows:
Day 1: “Data-Informed Teaching: Turning Assessment into Action” equips the teachers to use student data—especially assessment results—not just to measure learning, but to actively improve how they teach and how students learn. This is the most important part. Instead of assessments being the end point, they become a starting point for change. Data-informed teaching means using assessment results as a guide to make smarter, timely decisions that improve student learning—not just to grade students.
Day 2 - 4: “Curriculum Summits: Bridging Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment” is an opportune for the teachers to collaborate and connect specifically allows:
to discuss the Grade 9 curriculum on what the students are supposed to learn in terms of standards, content, competencies;
to identify the appropriate instructions on how the teachers will teach, i.e. strategies, activities, methods; and
to align the assessment methods to measure the learning by using appropriate strategies such as tests, projects, performance tasks, etc.
