Creating Pathways in STEM Education toward Sustainable Development
MS. KIMBERLY ANN CERNEK
Ms. Kimberly Ann Cernek
Kim Cernek began her 30-year career as an educator in a kindergarten classroom and has since taught every grade through junior high school. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and her Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she monitored preservice teachers, Kim began writing, editing, and presenting for leading American publishers.
Her experience collaborating with literacy experts and raising five children who were early readers motivated her to open and direct her own academy for young children called Sky Blue Scholars. Kim then paired her enthusiasm for teaching and her fascination with technology with a role with Apple Inc. as a trainer before pursuing her passion for travel. Kim took 18 months to explore the world, with a walk from Porto, Portugal, to Santiago, Spain, via the Camino de Santiago as a highlight. The Philippines marks the 50th country Kim has visited.
Presently, Kim is honored to dedicate her time and experience to her favorite activity—service. After spending one year as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Guyana, South America, Kim began performing the same role in collaboration with the Research, Policy, and Academics Department of the Office of the Executive Director of the Philippine Science High School System as a Curriculum Design Specialist.
