Creating Pathways in STEM Education toward Sustainable Development
A Description
The National Teachers' Convention (NTC) brings together educators, leaders, and industry professionals from across the country to prepare PSHS teachers and staff for the opening of a new school year. This year's NTC will focus on the intersection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and sustainable development, emphasizing the critical role that teachers play in preparing students with the knowledge and skills they need to face global challenges. The convention will include lectures by renowned resource speakers, interactive workshops, and paper presentations about novel teaching approaches, curriculum advancements, and the incorporation of sustainability concepts into STEM education.
NTC 2024 will showcase how STEM education can serve as a catalyst for long-term and sustainable growth. In line with this, attendees will receive insights into the most recent research and advances in education and the STEM fields that are driving global sustainability efforts. Renewable energy, climate change mitigation, sustainable agriculture, and smart technology will be covered in detail, with a focus on how these issues can be effectively taught in the classroom. Through this, teachers can motivate scholars to become proactive problem solvers ready to find long-term solutions to global problems.
In addition to professional development, the NTC 2024 serves as a vital networking hub for educators to connect with peers, industry leaders, and experts in sustainable development. These interactions provide opportunities for collaborative projects, mentorship, and the exchange of innovative ideas and resources. Teachers will leave not only with enhanced skills and knowledge, but also with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration.
The first ever National Teachers' Convention (NTC) was conducted in line with the curricular reforms undertaken by the Philippine Science High School System in 2017. All Grade 11 teachers were convened for capacity building to implement the new curriculum. Clustered into different subject areas, teachers underwent content specific training-workshops conducted by experts from leading educational institutions in the country. After which, teacher-participants brainstormed on how to implement the new curriculum. From then on, a system-wide teacher training has been held prior to the opening of the new school year.
