The seminar on new trends and Industrial applications in cement and concrete will provide a forum for scientists, engineers, companies, and constructors to present and discuss the latest advances, technical knowledge, continuing research and solutions for sustainable concrete manufacturing and construction from several perspectives. This seminar will also offer learning and networking opportunities for industry people. The construction materials industry is a major user of the natural resources. While enormous progress has been made towards sustainability, the scope and opportunities for further improvements are significant. The focus of this seminar series is to highlight researches and developments that show new and innovative ways of achieving Eco-friendly construction materials and technologies.
Fast technology advancement and growing environmental concerns are the drivers to the changes in building and construction industry and bring a new set of challenges. Traditional practices are now questioned and all stakeholders have to deal with a new set of regulations due to the more stringent requirements addressing the issues. India, where supply resources are volatile, faces even more severe challenges that necessitate market to come up with new measures. Building materials have been going through this tremendous dynamics and concrete is not exclusive to the situation. Recognized as one of the second most used material in the world, concrete is fundamental resource for society and economic development. Sustainability had considerable impact on the cement industry through energy and environmental requirements which were the drivers for impressive technological developments resulting in energy savings and reduction of clinker contents in cements, by use of blended cement with high contents of supplementary cementitious materials. In order to meet the comprehensive challenges of sustainability there is a need to address the concrete industry and the construction practices with concrete. Concrete has evolved through time to cope with changes by adopting new technologies. Alternative materials have been used to make concrete more environmentally friendly and visually pleasing for finishing. Design mixes are formulated to address productivity measures and decorative purposes.
