Overview: Welcome! It is a pleasure to have you in my classroom as we kick off the school year virtually. The 6th Grade Standards will be taught through interactive, teacher-built video lessons, Google Classroom, Big Ideas Math, Google Meets collaboration and group work.
Keys to succeed include teacher/student communication, hard work, and a positive
mindset. I will work hard to make this year as engaging and interactive as possible to promote mathematical growth and confidence. I look forward to a great school year and cannot wait to meet you all!
Platforms of Technology:
-Google Classroom - This is where you will find all your assignments, announcements, feedback on work, etc.
-Big Ideas Math - You will have assignments located here and this is where you will find your online textbook for the class.
-Microsoft Outlook Email - This is where you will find all your emails from teachers, students, etc. Check it everyday!
-Synergy - This is where you can locate all of your grades for the class.

Send me an email to set up a conference on Fridays. Please schedule a time if you have any questions about technology, where to find assignments, misunderstanding of certain math concepts, etc.
Standards Based Grading on a 0-4 rubric:
0 = missing mostly incomplete (No evidence of understanding of the material)
1 = not proficient (Evidence shows no understanding of the material)
2 = partially proficient (Evidence shows some understanding of the material)
3 = Proficient (Evidence shows almost full understanding of of the material)
4 = Advanced (Evidence shows complete understanding and can apple outside)
Grades
Summative (70%) - Tasks that are designed to assess your mastery skill level on a standard. This includes tests.
Formative (29%) - Tasks that are meant to help you learn or practice knowledge or skills. This includes quizzes, activities, projects, and some other assessments.
Work Habits (1%) - Tasks that assess how hard you work in class. This includes homework practice, being present to class, being prepared for class, etc.
Attendance
As of now, attendance will be taken every day at the beginning of each period. You must be the video call when class starts with camera on and mic off to be accounted for.
If you are late to the meeting, you will be counted as tardy.
If you do not show up during the meeting, you will be marked absent.
Virtual Expectations
Students are expected to be on Google Meets 2-5 minutes before the meeting begins so we can utilize time.
When meeting virtually, students must be dressed appropriately, in a quiet place, in a seated position.
When joining the video meetings, students' cameras must be turned ON and mics must be MUTED.
Students' microphones must remain off unless instructed otherwise or when they use the “hand” icon on MEETS to raise their hand and wait their turn to be called on.
Students must be prepared to learn with all of their notes, questions, and notebooks.
Students must be kind to everyone or there will be consequences for their actions.
Finally, students are not allowed to use the chat function unless instructed otherwise.
Any violations of these expectations will result in removal from the meeting and a parent email/call home. If it continues students will be required to have a parent present for their next meeting.
