Art Appreciation is a quarter long class for 6th grade students that focuses on foundational skills for artmaking. The goal of this class is for students to try different techniques and mediums so they are prepared for higher level classes and have an idea of what they like to do in the visual art realm. Art appreciation and history are correlated with studio art which emphasizes the elements of art (line, shape, color, value, texture, form, and space) and the principles of design (balance, movement, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, pattern, unity). Students also learn how to document their work using the design cycle and studio habits of mind.
