Ms. Sarah Schooley, Third Grade Teacher
Way back: I am a Colorado native, spending all of my youngest years in the beautiful foothills of Evergreen. I climbed a lot of rocks and trees growing up. As a child, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, idolizing my first grade teacher, Mrs. Brant.
College: The obvious choice for college was the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley because of its respected education program. For one of my college years, I headed to FINLAND, where I studied and traveled. After graduating from UNC, I moved to Chicago with my now husband, Chris, to experience life in the big city! We LOVE Chicago!
Family: While in Chicago, my husband and I got married and our two daughters were born. We spent 10 years there before heading back to Colorado in 2009. Amelia (19) is a sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago, and Hazel (17) is a senior at Rocky Mountain HS. We love to camp, hike, read, enjoy music, bike, watch movies, and generally just have fun together. We have two adorable calico cats named Midge and Ginger. Ginger is definitely the BOSS, and they are both adorable! We had to say goodbye to our perfect sweet doggie, Champ recently, and really hope to have another dog one day.
Career: After subbing in the city of Chicago and connecting with a Nature Center north of the city, I found a job in the wonderfully diverse community of Skokie. While teaching fifth grade, I earned my Master’s Degree in Special Education. I taught in the same classroom at Highland Elementary for nine years before heading back to Colorado and settling here in Fort Collins to begin my teaching and learning at Olander School for Project-Based Learning. I taught in the upper grades for five years before making the BIG switch to Kindergarten, where I taught for SIX years. Prior to moving to Tavelli two years ago, I had been teaching Integrated Early Childhood Education the previous two years at Olander.
I knew it was time to move back to teaching the upper elementary grades, and I joined the Tavelli Tigers in 2022, teaching fourth grade. This is my first year in third grade and I look forward to another year of partnering with families and learning with students to have an incredible year.
