Welcome to another exciting school year! My name is Mr. (Coach) Sandy, and I am honored and excited to join the school community as your new Physical Education teacher. I look forward to getting to know each student and helping them discover the joy of being active, building healthy habits, and developing confidence through movement.
I am a Wyoming native entering my ninth year of teaching. Before becoming an educator, I proudly served 12 years in the United States military. Following my military service, I pursued a career in education because I wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of young people, and physical education was the perfect fit.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time on the trails and staying active with my wife, Angie. While I no longer compete at the same level, distance running has been a lifelong passion. I have completed two 100-mile trail races, and earlier in my running career, I trained with the goal of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. I earned my bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Dana College, where I competed in cross country and track on athletic scholarships. I also hold master's degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Northern Colorado.
My philosophy of physical education is:
To instill a love of physical activity in students that inspires them to lead healthy, active lives and become confident, productive members of their communities.
Physical education is about much more than learning sports and games. Throughout the year, students will develop movement skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, fitness, and an understanding of health and nutrition. My goal is to create a safe, positive, and encouraging environment where every child feels welcomed, challenged, and successful.
I am excited to partner with you in helping our students grow not only as active learners but also as kind teammates, respectful leaders, and healthy individuals. Together, we can make this an incredible year!
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or if there is anything I can do to support your child.
Yours in Health,
Coach Sandy
