CREATION

1. Compose/Improvise/
   arrange melody using rhythm and pitch.

2. Compose/improvise short phrases using known rhythms and pitches.

• Notate 4-beat rhythmic and melodic patterns dictated by the teacher

• Identify specific instruments of the band or orchestra

• Distinguish between Major and minor tonalities

• Identify music performed in two or more parts

• Aurally identify music from various periods in history

AESTHETICS

1. Discriminate between musical and nonmusical factors in individual music preference

2. Use appropriate musical terms to describe music preferences

3. Communicate similarities and differences in music from various historical periods with music of today.

4. Discuss the influence of various cultures on American music (Caribbean, Western European, Native American, African, etc.)

5. Describe vocal and instrumental timbres and their uses throughout American music.
