Math:
We are diving into the world of 3-digit numbers! Students are learning how these numbers work on a number line and exploring different strategies to solve problems, such as counting by 1s, 10s, and 100s. We are also practicing how to compare numbers by identifying which are greater than or less than others. Building a strong understanding of place value continues to be an important focus as we grow our math skills.
Reading:
In reading, we have begun meaningful conversations about abilities, empathy, and understanding different points of view. Students are learning to recognize and respect others’ perspectives. We are also exploring the disability rights movement through engaging picture books that share real experiences and voices of people with disabilities. These stories help us build background knowledge while strengthening comprehension and discussion skills.
Social Studies:
We are excited to begin learning about Fort Collins history! Students are exploring timelines by connecting important events to their own lives, such as their birthdays, and understanding how events relate to one another. We’ve also started learning about early people, including Native American communities in the Fort Collins area, and how the city came to be. This unit is helping students build a sense of time, place, and community.
Social Emotional Learning:
This month’s character trait is courage! We’re practicing how to move respectfully through shared school spaces and continuing to follow our Shepardson Respect Code:
⭐ Respect for self
⭐ Respect for others
⭐ Respect for our world
