Hello! My name is Mrs. Fields and I am the art teacher at Olander! I grew up on a farm in Nebraska, complete with cows, corn , and all things Cornhuskers! After attending college in Seward, NE I began my teaching career in Denver, CO as a 1st and 2nd grade combined classroom teacher. After four years of teaching and many masters level classes from DU I became a school librarian. Two years later I was offfered the opportunity to start up a brand new art program at an elementary school in the Denver Public School district. I have loved teaching art ever since!

My family and I moved to Fort Collins in 2010 so that my husband could attend CSU to get his PhD. I was very excited to get the opportunity to teach at Olander. We absolutely love it here! My kids Owen, Emma, Eli, Ellie, and Livvy have all attended Olander. Yep, I have 5 kids! Two sets of twins with one in between. :)

It is so wonderful to share fun art projects with kids. They have so much fun trying different things and learning about famous artists. I'm glad I get to be part of that fun!

Philosophy
Philosophy
I believe that every child is an artist, just as Picasso. Their skills and abilities are at different levels. My job as an art teacher is to facilitate the creative process and teach students the skills they need in order to develop those abilities. As part of their art education, students also learn about famous artists, their work, and place in history. Most importantly, I try to make art fun and successful for all children!
