Welcome to Art!

Hi Bacon Artists, I'm so glad you made it to my Learning Page! Art at Bacon Elementary will be at a different time and/or day for each classroom. The "Specials Calendar" tab at the top of this page will help you to find the day and time for your students class. Students will go to their Art Google Classroom and enter the meeting on time. We will do a warm-up activity first to get our creativity ready to flow then I will do an art lesson.

About Me

My name is Jen Dixon and I have been teaching art at Bacon since 2004!!! During those first few years, before I was 100% at Bacon, I was also a sub in PSD, an art teacher at Werner Elementary (1 day a week for 4 years), an art & teacher at Timnath Elementary (half a day for 1 year), and a Para in the autism room (2 days a week for 2 years). I have been thankful ever since to have the wonderful art room at Bacon as my home away from home.

I am originally from Greeley, CO where I went to Meeker Elementary, Brentwood Middle School, John Evans Jr. High (which was the location of a movie called Over the Edge staring Matt Dillon from 1979 and has since been torn down), then Greeley West High School. I continued my education at Aims Community College earning an Associate of Arts degree and figuring out that, YES, I NEED to be and art teacher! I earned my BA at the University of Northern Colorado majoring in education with an emphasis is Visual Arts. Then I rounded my education with my Masters degree in Integrated Teaching Through the Arts from Lesley University.

My family consists of my husband Ben, my son Greg (who graduated from Bacon as a 5th grader during the crazy spring of 2020), Owen (who is now a 5th grader at Bacon), Rio my awesome dog, my parents, Bob & Jill who are retired teachers and still in Greeley in the same house we moved to before my kindergarten year, and my sister Lara who is a Physical Therapist in Boulder, CO that has made up for my parents lack of moving by moving to NE, NC, MA but finally returning to colorful Colorado.

I love art, creating it, looking at it, and talking about it! I started out mostly drawing but have lately come to really enjoy painting. I also have made quite a few costumes for my family & myself. I also worked as a canoe guide through the White Water Canoe Company out of Greeley for 22 years (not all in a row) teaching boy and girl scouts, senior groups, students and other clients how to canoe from half day classes on lakes to 7 day river trips. I love being outside: hiking, walking, playing street tennis, rollerblading, Slip N' Sliding, and camping.

I'm so excited to be able to do some art together!
