Students and teachers collaborate to develop the unit and its central idea together. Students looked at examples of previous central ideas from their K-5 journey through the PYP. They highlighted the verbs and nouns in these different examples. Then, in small groups, they wrote sentence strips using colored verbs and nouns to write and share their ideas for our class central idea. Once we had examples from each group we analyzed them and combined them into one class central idea:
Within this unit, each student selects key concepts that connect to our transdisciplinary theme "Who We Are" to write individual lines of inquiry.
Within this unit, each student selects an issue or problem in the world that is of significant interest to the student, able to be researched, and meaningful to the world or local community.
