I. Title
II. Purpose - A brief summary of what you are trying to accomplish. This should be relatively brief (1 - 3 sentences)
a) If your experiment includes an unknown (variable), your lab report should include a hypothesis. This is a testable statement or prediction based on the purpose.
III. Procedure - The procedure should outline the steps you took during the experiment. They can be in the form of step by step instructions, including modifications, of exactly how you did the experiment. Someone reading the experimental procedure should be able to duplicate your experiment and get similar results. This should also include complete descriptions and pictures of laboratory apparatus and setup, including a materials list. Some labs will already include instructions and steps, in this case, you can just embed the appropriate google doc in your website.
IV. Results - This section should contain all data, tables, graphs, and calculations. What did you measure?
V. Discussion/Conclusion - . The discussion should be a well written section where you summarize your results and make conclusions based on your evidence and observations. Discuss what you learned and how you can apply it to your understanding of chemistry. Identify sources of error in your experiment and whether or not your purpose and hypothesis, when relevant, was supported or not your data and observations. Were you successful? Why or why not? It is recommended that you discuss the relevancy of your results as well as how your experiment could be improved in the future.
